NYCC - In The Loop - May 4, 2007

Apologies for the late notice on JENNIFER GRIFFITH's Viola Split, performed by Leanne Darling on amplified viola. It was played last night at The CUNY Composers' Alliance concert, along with new works by Coughlin, Leigh, Siegal, Salvage, Malpica, Mayzus, and the Intermedia Arts Group. Congrats, Jennifer!

CESAR VUKSIC's composition "Nana" for mezzo-soprano, violoncello and piano will be performed at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (58 Seventh Avenue, Brooklyn. Train Q to Seventh Avenue Station) on Saturday, May 5 at 8pm by Christine Moore as part of her program, "From Andalucia to the Americas...an Odyssey of Spanish Song". The cellist will be Laura Metcalf. Vuksic will also accompany Ms. Moore at the piano in Manuel de Falla's Suite "Seven Spanish Songs" as well as in Songs by Granados, Silvestre Revueltas and Ginastera.

OREN FADER's Fireworks Ensemble performs at the Symphony Space Thalia next Thursday, May 10, at 7:30pm. They will present one of their most popular touring programs, including dance music from five continents combined with a rock-inspired rendition of Stravinsky's classic ballet score, Rite of Spring. at Symphony Space in New York. DON HAGAR's big band piece, "Good Apple," will be performed by the Queens College Big Band at City College of New York, 160 Convent Avenue, at Aaron Davis Hall.  The performance will take place on Thursday, May 10, starting at 5pm.

Directions to the school are as follows: Take the 1 train to 137th Street and Broadway; walk up 138th Street three blocks to Convent Avenue. Or take "A" or"D" express, or the "B" or "C" local to 145th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, walk west one block to 145th Street and Convent Avenue, then south to 138th Street.

The premiere of Three States of Water, by RICHARD RUSSELL, will take place at Mannes College of Music's Concert Hall on Tuesday, May 15 at 8pm. This piece, for three flutes, was written for MARY BARTO's flute ensemble. Mary is a well-known friend of the NYCC, and her talented students present a concert at the end of every school semester. Among the flutists performing Rich's piece is Aki Kasuga. Some of you will remember her from when she recently participated in an NYCC Recorded Reading.

JOSEPH PEHRSON's Composers Concordance presents a concert Friday, May 18, 2007, 8PM at the Greenwich House Music School Renee Weiler Concert Hall, 46 Barrow Street, NYC. There will be a reception following to mingle with composers, performers and enthusiasts.  Tickets $12, $10 students/seniors. JOHN EATON's piece Sor Juana Songs will be presented. Other composers on the evening's program are Kirill Umansky, George Boziwick, Salvatore Sciarrino, Jeff Harrington, and Patrick Hardish.
